Immunity Ginger-Garlic Soup for Cold Evenings
A clear, warming ginger-garlic soup built on two D-O-N powders — the fastest home remedy for the days you feel a scratch in your throat.

There is a specific evening in every year — usually the one when the weather changes and someone in the family starts sniffling — when this soup has to appear on the stove. Clear broth, real ginger and garlic, black pepper, a splash of lime, and a handful of vegetables you already have in the fridge.
The heavy lifting is done by D-O-N Ginger Powder and D-O-N Garlic Powder. Because both are single-ingredient, gently-dehydrated powders, they carry the full aromatic oils and gingerols of the fresh rhizomes without you having to grate anything. The soup comes together in 30 minutes and tastes like it took much longer.
Method
- 01Sweat the aromatics
Heat ghee in a heavy pot. Add onion and cook on medium heat until soft and translucent — about 4 minutes. Do not brown; you want a clear broth.
- 02Bloom the powders
Sprinkle D-O-N Ginger Powder and Garlic Powder over the onion. Stir for 30 seconds. This tiny step wakes up the essential oils and is the difference between a flat soup and one that fills the whole kitchen with warmth.
- 03Simmer the vegetables
Add carrot, cabbage, sweet corn and stock. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 12–15 minutes, until the vegetables are tender but still bright.
- 04Season and serve
Turn off the heat. Add soy sauce, black pepper, salt and lime juice. Ladle into bowls, scatter with coriander and spring onion greens, and serve very hot.
Tips from our kitchen
- Add a beaten egg through the finished broth for a Chinese-style egg-drop version.
- For a heartier meal, drop in a handful of cooked rice noodles at the end.
- Keep a small jar of D-O-N Ginger and Garlic Powder next to the stove — soups, stir-fries and marinades come together twice as fast.
Frequently asked questions
Does this soup really help a cold?+
It won't cure a cold, but ginger, garlic, pepper and lime together are one of the gentler traditional support remedies. Drink it hot, sip slowly.
Can I make it in advance?+
Yes. The soup keeps well in the fridge for 2 days. Reheat gently — do not boil hard — so the lime and pepper stay bright.
Is this soup vegan?+
Yes, if you use olive oil instead of ghee and a vegan stock.
