Golden Turmeric Latte (Haldi Doodh) with D-O-N Turmeric Powder
A creamy, gently-spiced turmeric latte you can make in five minutes — the modern reboot of grandma's haldi doodh, minus the bitterness.

There is a reason haldi doodh has quietly lived in every Indian kitchen for centuries. Turmeric, gently simmered in warm milk, is one of the oldest home remedies we have — a bright, grounding drink your grandmother probably handed you the moment you sniffled.
This modern golden turmeric latte keeps everything that grandma loved and adds a few tricks from the coffee-shop world: a touch of black pepper (which helps your body actually absorb the turmeric), a whisper of cinnamon, and a proper foam on top. Made right, it is warming without being heavy, anti-inflammatory without tasting medicinal, and absolutely never bitter.
The single most important ingredient is the turmeric itself. D-O-N Turmeric Powder is milled from carefully-chosen Indian rhizomes with nothing added — no polish, no colour, no fillers. That purity is what lets the natural curcumin and gentle earthiness come through cleanly in your latte.
Method
- 01Warm the milk
Pour milk into a small saucepan and bring it to a very gentle simmer over medium-low heat. Do not boil hard — you want soft steam, not a rolling boil. This keeps the milk sweet and prevents that skinned-over taste.
- 02Bloom the spices
Turn off the heat and whisk in ½ tsp D-O-N Turmeric Powder, cinnamon, black pepper and grated ginger. Whisk continuously for 30 seconds so no clumps sit at the bottom. The pepper here is essential — piperine multiplies your body's absorption of curcumin by up to 20×.
- 03Sweeten last
Only once the pan is off the heat, stir in honey or jaggery. Raw honey should never boil, and jaggery melts smoothly into warm milk without turning bitter.
- 04Froth and pour
Use a small handheld frother or blend for 20 seconds until you see a thin, glossy foam on top. Pour into your favourite mug, dust with a little extra cinnamon, and serve immediately.
Tips from our kitchen
- For the creamiest cup, use full-fat A2 milk. If you are vegan, oat milk froths best.
- Sipping golden latte 30 minutes before bed can help you wind down — the warm milk and turmeric together are naturally calming.
- Double the batch, cool it fully and drink over ice the next morning — it makes an excellent post-workout anti-inflammatory drink.
Frequently asked questions
Is turmeric latte good for you every day?+
Yes — a cup a day of unsweetened turmeric latte is a gentle way to add curcumin to your routine. If you take blood thinners or are pregnant, consult your doctor first.
Why do you add black pepper?+
The piperine in black pepper dramatically boosts how much curcumin your body absorbs, turning turmeric from a spice into a functional ingredient.
Can I use D-O-N Turmeric Powder in cooking too?+
Absolutely — it is a single-ingredient powder with no additives, so it works in dals, curries, marinades and khichdi exactly as fresh haldi would.
