Fresh Moringa Smoothie with Banana and Coconut Water
A vividly green, ridiculously fresh moringa smoothie that turns D-O-N's single-ingredient moringa leaf powder into a five-minute breakfast.

Moringa oleifera — the drumstick tree — is one of the few plants on Earth that is genuinely worth the label 'super food'. Its leaves carry more iron than spinach, more vitamin C than oranges and more calcium than cow's milk, gram for gram. The problem, as anyone who has tasted plain moringa powder will tell you, is that it can be intensely grassy.
This smoothie solves that in one bowl. Ripe banana lends natural sweetness and body, coconut water cools it down, a squeeze of lime brings the moringa alive, and the whole thing takes exactly the time it takes to rinse your blender jar.
D-O-N Moringa Powder is milled from shade-dried, single-origin Indian moringa leaves — no fillers, no stems, just the leaf. That freshness is what gives the smoothie its clean, almost tea-like flavour rather than the hay taste you get with older, oxidised powders.
Method
- 01Load the jar
Add coconut water first, followed by yoghurt, banana, moringa powder, honey, ginger, lime juice and ice. Coconut water at the bottom gets the blades moving before anything else and prevents the powder from pasting to the sides.
- 02Blend on high
Blend for 45–60 seconds until you see a smooth, uniform emerald green with no flecks of powder. If your blender is not powerful, pause once, scrape the sides, and blend again.
- 03Taste and balance
Take a spoonful. If it is too grassy for you, add a little more banana. If it is too sweet, another squeeze of lime. This is a smoothie you should tune to your own palate.
- 04Serve immediately
Pour into tall glasses. Moringa oxidises quickly once blended, so drink within 15 minutes for the brightest colour and freshest taste.
Tips from our kitchen
- Freeze ripe bananas in advance — they turn a smoothie from watery to velvety.
- For a post-workout version, add 1 tbsp peanut butter and a scoop of vanilla whey.
- Kids often love this as a lolly — pour into ice-lolly moulds and freeze for a bright green afternoon treat.
Frequently asked questions
How much moringa powder is safe per day?+
For most healthy adults, 1–2 teaspoons of moringa powder daily is a comfortable dose. Start with half a teaspoon if you are new to it.
Does moringa taste bitter?+
Good moringa powder — like D-O-N's — is gently grassy, not bitter. Bitterness usually points to older or heat-dried powder.
Can I add moringa powder to rotis or paranthas?+
Yes. Stir a teaspoon into your dough for a beautifully green, iron-rich flatbread.
