Banana Porridge for Babies (6+ Months) — made with D-O-N Banana Powder

Green banana is a traditional first food across the country — soft, mildly sweet, rich in resistant starch, iron and potassium, and famously gentle on tiny tummies. The catch, until recently, was that peeling and steaming raw green bananas is a whole afternoon of work.

D-O-N Green Banana Powder takes that afternoon out of the picture. It is milled from young, single-origin bananas that are gently air-dried, with nothing else added. A single teaspoon in warm milk or water turns into a smooth, starchy porridge in six minutes flat. That is exactly what a parent starting solids needs at 5 pm on a weekday.

Always check with your paediatrician before introducing a new food, and start with a very small quantity to watch for any allergic reaction.

Method

  1. 01
    Mix cold, then heat

In a small saucepan, whisk 1 tbsp D-O-N Green Banana Powder into ½ cup cold water or milk until you have a completely smooth slurry. Whisking cold prevents lumps.

  2. 02
    Cook gently

Place on low heat and stir continuously. In about 4–5 minutes the porridge will thicken and take on a soft, glossy sheen. Do not walk away — baby porridge scorches fast.

  3. 03
    Finish and cool

Turn off the heat. Add a pinch of nutmeg or a tiny knob of ghee if age-appropriate. Cool to lukewarm — always test on your inner wrist before feeding.

  4. 04
    Serve fresh

Feed within 20 minutes of cooking. Never store leftovers of baby food that has touched the spoon.

Tips from our kitchen

  • For 6-month-olds, keep the porridge slightly runnier by using a little extra liquid.
  • From 8 months onwards, you can stir in a spoon of mashed avocado or a puréed date for variety.
  • The porridge should be freshly cooked for every feed — do not batch and store.

Frequently asked questions

Is green banana powder safe for a 6-month-old?+

Yes, when introduced as part of a paediatrician-approved weaning plan. Start with a very small quantity and watch for any reaction over 3 days.

Is D-O-N Green Banana Powder just banana?+

Yes — it is 100% air-dried green banana, with nothing added. That is exactly what you want for a baby's first foods.

Can I mix it with breast-milk?+

Yes. Cook the porridge with water first, cool it slightly, then stir in breast-milk right before feeding to preserve its properties.
